The far-right Rebel Media has sunk beyond even their low standards of integrity, hosting a 40-minute long interview with Milo Yiannopoulos, the radical rightwing figure who was too extreme even for Breitbart (from where he was fired a few months ago).

Yiannopolous most recently made headlines for seeming to endorse sexual relationships between older men and “younger boys”, specifically that relationships “between younger boys and older men … can be hugely positive experiences.”

But Yiannopolous’ greatest hits extend well beyond this. He has a long history of making horrific statements in the service of a rightwing agenda:

  • On a 2015 episode of Gavin McInnes’ show (himself a former Rebel host), Yiannopolous claimed that child sexual abuse “really is not that big of a deal” and said that child sexual abuse victims are “whinging selfish brats.”
  • In June 2015, Yiannopolous — who is himself gay — published a column on Breitbart.com arguing that “it’s time to get back in the closet” and “gay rights have made us dumber”.
  • In 2011, he published a blog post on his personal blog claiming that homosexuality was “aberrant”.
  • In June 2016, he called Islam a “cancer” in a Breitbart column.

And the list goes on. But none of this seems to be a problem for Ezra Levant and The Rebel, who now welcome Yiannopolous with open arms.

The question must be asked: does The Rebel endorse Yiannopolous’ views? And if not, why are they giving him such a wide platform to disseminate them?
