Did Doug Ford’s Conservatives mislead Ontarians about sexual misconduct allegations? It sure looks that way
Global News reports that long-time Conservative MPP and Doug Ford supporter Jim Wilson resigned due to sexual misconduct allegations, something the Premier’s Office was aware of when they initially claimed the minister was resigning due to substance abuse.
Global News cites multiple sources that two members of Ford’s inner circle were forced to resign due to allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour. The other member was Ford’s director of issues management and legislative affairs Andrew Kimber was allegedly sent sexually inappropriate text messages to a Queens Park staffer.
According to Global’s reporting, the Premier’s Office was made aware of the allegations against Jim Wilson on Friday afternoon. That evening a press release was issued saying Mr. Wilson was resigning to seek treatment for addiction issues. The statement did not mention sexual inappropriate behaviour, even though Global’s timeline shows Ford’s team was aware of the allegations.
Based on the timeline reported by Global, Doug Ford’s team appears to have misled voters by saying it was due to substance abuse issues when reports indicate they were aware it was due to sexual misconduct allegations.
