This Conservative MP wants to make AR-15s easier to purchase
As America grapples with decades of unrelenting and growing gun violence, one Canadian Conservative politician wants to make dangerous weapons like the AR-15 easier to purchase.
Right now the AR-15 is a restricted weapon, meaning that Canadians who wish to purchase one are subjected to stringent background checks and can only use it at a shooting range.
Conservative MP Bob Zimmer presented a petition to parliament in 2006 arguing that AR-15s should be legal in Canada and easier to purchase.
The AR-15 is one of the primary weapons used in shootings across the US and was used as recently by the Dayton gunman who killed 9 people in 32 seconds using an AR-15 style assault weapon.
Scheer has promised that if he wins in 2019 he will slash gun laws, reduce background checks and make it easier for people to purchase dangerous weapons.
