Demand a public inquiry into Ontario long-term care

A new report released by the Canadian Armed Forces reveals the terrifying state of Ontario’s nursing homes.[1] The military members aiding five Ontario homes detailed a host of disturbing observations:

  • Residents were left soiled, yelling for help for hours
  • Residents being force-fed to the point of choking
  • Cockroach and bug infestations
  • Staffing shortages
  • Lack of PPE, with staff re-using masks and gloves

The COVID-19 crisis in long-term care has been apparent for months, yet despite assurances from our leaders, it is clear our seniors are still at risk.

When 6 people died in the Walkerton tragedy, there was a public inquiry. When 44 people died during the SARS epidemic, there was a public inquiry.  With over 1,300 deaths, there must be a public, independent, and transparent inquiry into COVID-19 deaths in Ontario’s long-term care homes.

So far, Premier Doug Ford has evaded calls for a public inquiry but he hasn’t ruled it out. We need thousands of Ontarians to speak out and pressure the Ford government to do the right thing.

Will you sign the petition and call on Ford to launch a public inquiry into COVID-19 outbreaks in Ontario’s long-term care homes?
