Help Seniors By Increasing OAS and CPP Payments During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a financial toll on all Canadians. The government has acted to help Canadians, but little has been done for seniors

With stock markets taking a plunge, many retired Canadians are looking at their retirement plans with dismay. The value of their RRSPs and RRIFs has dropped.

Government programs like the OAS and CPP already don’t pay enough to cover basic expenses. Now the savings that seniors rely on to top up their income are also at risk due to the plunging stock market.

While working-age Canadians that face unemployment have seen benefits introduced to aid them, there has been little support for our seniors. [1] Low-income seniors were struggling to get by as is, now it’s gotten even harder.  Many are being forced to make withdrawals at a time when investments are declining: putting them at risk of running out of money before they run out of retirement.

A simple increase in  OAS and CPP payments during the COVID-19 crisis can help retired Canadians get through these difficult times. Join our campaign and call on the federal government to increase OAS and CPP payments for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
