It’s Time for Canada to Become Medically Self-Sufficient

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown our public healthcare system is dangerously reliant on foreign companies and products.

We’ve contracted out services to private foreign firms, outsourced production of medical gear and reduced our capacity to respond to critical health threats.

Now we face mass shortages and our healthcare workers’ lives are at risk because Trump is hijacking personal protective equipment. We must learn from this crisis and never let Canada be dependent on unreliable foreign actors.

Will you call on the government to ensure Canada becomes medically self-sufficient in the coming years, so we’re never reliant on Trump or foreign companies ever again?

In the months and years ahead, it’s critical Canada become medically self-sufficient, with the ability to meet our populations’ healthcare needs.

We must create a made-in-Canada manufacturing plan to build products like personal protective equipment and critical care medical devices that our health professionals rely on.

We must end the privatization and outsourcing of healthcare services like seniors homes to profit-driven foreign companies.

We must pay healthcare workers, especially nurses and homecare workers, better wages so we have the capacity to act.

And we must develop domestic capacity for publicly-owned drug manufacturing so we no longer rely on expensive, profit-driven foreign companies who take their marching orders from foreign shareholders.

Will you call on the government to ensure Canada becomes medically self-sufficient in the coming years, so we’re never reliant on Trump or foreign companies ever again?
