Tell Kenney: Don’t Privatize Healthcare

Jason Kenney’s United Conservative Party has made the creation of private healthcare one of their official party policies.[1] For months, Kenney’s government has been chipping away at our public healthcare system. Now, they have stopped hiding their true agenda: the privatization of healthcare in Alberta.

In July, the UCP government passed Bill 30, which will quickly increase the number of private surgical facilities and allow for-profit companies to run them.[2]

In October, Kenney’s health minister announced 11,000 lay-offs of hospital workers during a pandemic. Why? Because they plan on privatizing the jobs and outsourcing them to for-profit corporations. [3]

While the United Conservatives have justified privatization by suggesting it reduces wait times, in both the United Kingdom and Australia, privatization has not resulted in shorter wait times.[4] In Saskatchewan, where the government privatized MRI services, the waitlist has actually doubled.[5]

Kenney is no longer ‘paving the way’ for two-tier, private health care. He is openly advocating for it. Our window of opportunity to save our public healthcare system is closing.

Will you take a stand and call on Kenney and the Conservatives to repeal this healthcare privatization bill?
